Everyone experiences moments of sadness --it's a very normal human emotion but sometimes feelings of unhappiness can be overwhelming and may indicate a person has depression. Depression is not a normal part of growing older but rather a treatable illness that impacts more than 6 million of the more than 40 million Americans over age 65. It's important not to dismiss or ignore the signs because severe depression can lead to disability or worsening symptoms.
Elderly Day Treatment programs offer support, encouragement, and therapeutic guidance for adults. Many older adults are often faced with declining health, loneliness, and often a diminished support system. Without intervention, these events can lead to serious emotional and physical problems. In order to participate in this program the individual must be at least 50 years of age, they must be in need of professional guidance and assistance in daily life, and they must have a current medical exam.
